In October, Denmark will host MSC 83 and is thus underlining its position as a significant shipping nation.
Both the Minister, Mr Bendt Bendtsen, in charge of maritime affairs, and the Danish shipping industry are pleased that Denmark, as one of the world’s largest shipping nations, can reiterate its support to IMO by hosting the important MSC meeting. This is an exceptional opportunity not just to retain Denmark’s position as a quality shipping nation but also to put Copenhagen on the global map as one of Europe’s most significant maritime business centres.
Minister of Economic and Business Affairs, Mr Bendt Bendtsen:
- As Minister of maritime affairs and thereby responsible for carrying out the Danish Government’s recently adopted agenda for growth in the maritime cluster, I am very pleased to be hosting an international shipping event within the IMO. Shipping is international by nature and Denmark is known for its longstanding commitment to international regulation and cooperation on safety at sea and global protection of the marine environment. I believe this is an excellent opportunity for Denmark to give our support to IMO and to acknowledge IMO as the supreme international regulatory body.
- I am also very pleased to see that the Danish industry substantially supports and contributes to the event. This indicates that the industry shares the Danish Government’s appreciation of IMO.
The 83rd session of the Maritime Safety Committee will be held on 3-12 October 2007 in Bella Center, Copenhagen.
